In this month’s issue, we’re highlighting some of the standout photos from the past eight months since TR Street Magazine began including a few recent images that haven’t yet been featured here. For personal reasons, I’ve taken a short break from Instagram, but don’t let that stop you from using the hashtag in your posts. I’m still excited to see what you’ve been creating. Let’s dive into this month’s issue, starting with a brilliant image by @prefers-rain.

Taken by: @prefers-rain
This image captures a timeless quality, especially in black and white, with a rush of emotion flowing through the frame. The use of panning and slow shutter speed gives it the feel of a photograph taken 30 years ago. A job very well done by @prefers-rain. If you’d like to see us cover longer exposures in a future issue, feel free to drop Tommy a message on VSCO. Your feedback is always appreciated.

This image from @cyrustabar immediately caught my eye. The sheer intensity and expression in this portrait amplify both the mood of the photo and the personality of the subject. There’s also a film-like quality in the subtle halation of the light across the glass behind the subject, adding a dreamy softness to what is otherwise a very intense scene. I really like how Cyrus has brought together two contrasting emotions in one frame.

Taken by: @lkkben
I’d like to welcome @lkkben to this month’s blog. I’ve long admired his work on VSCO, and I’m grateful he included the hashtag in his post. This capture is stunning. The symmetry of the architecture is striking, and the composition with the shaded fence at the bottom makes the subject stand out even more. The golden glow across one side of the building adds another layer of depth. It’s a great reminder of what we can achieve when shooting during golden hour.

I’d also like to welcome @kendallmedrano with this brilliant wide-angle shot of towering city buildings, taken during golden hour. I love the different shapes captured in each of the three structures. That detail makes the image stand out, along with the lighting that gives the two lower buildings the feeling of closing into the night, while the top building already sits in darkness.

Taken by: @robfocht
This image by @robfocht almost made it into last month’s issue, where we highlighted photos on VSCO that stood out for their use of composition, lighting, and mood. Like Cyrus’s image earlier, this one carries a strong film vibe, with halation around the neon sign on the right and a subtle grain visible across the frame. There’s also a soft glow surrounding the background lights, which adds even more atmosphere. I really value the thoughtful use of lighting here, and it’s something I’m always on the lookout for across VSCO.

Here’s a recent image I captured this week as I prepared to start university for the first time. As I begin my journey into storytelling through a marketing degree, we were given the chance to enter a competition focused on street art. I wanted to combine the two elements, and I was pleased with how it turned out in the photo above.
One thing I’ve been learning, through self-evaluating other photographers’ work, is the role of colour in storytelling and how it draws the viewer’s eye. That’s why I positioned the subjects in this way. You can check out more of my work here: @tommyregan.

Lastly, we have an image taken by one of VSCO’s co-founders, Greg Lutze. I love the photo drag here — it adds another dimension to slower shutter photography, and the street setting with all the lights makes it even more striking. The bold use of red instantly captures my attention and leaves me wondering what the original subject was. Thank you to @greg for being such a key part of @vsco. This truly is a special community.
